Bodalla is the Zone 7 Central Grade 5 Pennants Champions! A long 2 days last weekend, forced because rain caused games to be cancelled the previous weekend, saw Bodalla travel to Malua Bay on the Saturday. All 3 rinks were lost on a slowish green, not a complete surprise considering that Malua Bay are a grade 4 side and have been unbeaten all season. They proved to be more skilled at changing the head when needed and ran out comfortable winners 66 shots to 44.

With Moruya 5’s beating Tuross Head by just 2 shots and Narooma losing 10-0 to Tomakin, the table showed Moruya with a 2 point lead over Bodalla, with Narooma a further 6 shots behind. A Bodalla win over Dalmeny and a Narooma win over Moruya on Sunday, would men victory for Bodalla and that’s exactly how it panned out. Bodalla won 2 rinks to Dalmeny’s 1 and came away with a 81 to 39 shot victory for 9 points, while Narooma kindly did the deed at Moruya, winning 2 rinks to 1 for a 64 to 47 victory. This meant the table finished with Bodalla on 38 points and Narooma and Moruya both on 32 points.

Congratulations to the Bodalla team, who now go to the Zone championship which is at Moruya, May 18th and 19th

Jason Hossack is the 2023 – 2024 Bodall Singles Champion. He defeated last years champion Graham Bagnett 25 – 15. A close game for the first 10 or so ends before Jason pulled away for a comfortable win. Well done Jason !

The pennants season is currently on a 3 week break. Bodalla is strongly place for when the season resumes on April 6th, with a home game against Dalmeny. We are sitting in 3rd position on the ladder, with only grade 4 teams Malua Bay and Tomakin above us. Both Narooma and Moruya are hot on our heels just 6 and 8 points behind. The draw for the final 2 rounds is slightly in our favour with Narooma and Moruya to meet in round 6. Bodalla travels to grade 4 team Malua Bay in the last round, while Narooma host Grade 4 team Tomakin and Moruya is away to winless Tuross Head. Fingers crossed for a Narooma win in round 6 and for Tuross to break their duck and beat Moruya !

Pennants is underway and despite winning only 1 rink against Narooma, a big win by the Graham Bagnet skipped team meant that Bodalla came away with 8 points to Narooma’s 2. The weather played a big part, with the increasing rain making things difficult but also taking away Bodalla’s home advantage to some degree. This coming week will be a tough one, away against Tomakin 4’s. The teams are on the notice board, don’t forget to confirm your availability.

The pairs finalists have been decided. With Jason Hossack and Daryll Hogarthe already through, the second semi final was played yesterday and went right down to the last end. The team of Carol Verner and Graham Bagnet came away with a 1 shot win after earning 2 points on the last end. Both teams had subs as leads, Denny Thompson standing in for Morto and Carol Verner for Rod Fitzjohn. It should be a great final, date to be advised.

The triples final was played on Tuesday October 17. The result went right down to the wire, with the team of John Metcalfe (L), Darryl Hogarth (2) and Jason Hossack (S) beating Rod Fitzjohn (L), Jim Morrison (2) and Graham Bagnet (S), by a single shot 21 to 20. It was a fairly close tussle the whole game and although Graham Bagnet’s team held a 7 shot lead at one stage, after 24 of 25 ends, Jason Hossack’s team had fought back to hold a 2 shot lead. A couple of wayward bowls early didn’t help their cause and although Graham Bagnet managed to win 1 shot, it wasn’t enough. Well done guys.

August 13th ’23

The first round of the Darrel Hope Shield vs Moruya was played at Bodalla Saturday August 12 and despite the home advantage that the quick green should have given the home team, Moruya ran out comfortable winners by 13 points. Moruya won 3 rinks out of 4, with the only Bodalla team to win was the 4 of John Metcalf, John McFarlane, Rod Fitzjohn and Daryll Hogarth. It’ll take a big team effort to overhaul that lead next week but I’m sure Bodalla will give it their best shot.

July 26th ’23

The 2023/24 season club fours was decided on Tuesday July 25, with the team of Peter Pickett (L), Neil Verner (2), Daryl Hogarth (3) and Jason Hossack (Skip), beating the team of Denny Thompsen (L), Tony Gors (2), Matt Morten (3) and Paul van den Huevel (Skip) 19-12 after 18 ends.

The Jason Hossack skipped team led from the start and although the score got as close as 13-11, ran out comfortable winners. The leads had a good battle but in the end Jason Hossack’s ability to win ends after being down at the head proved the difference. Congratulations to the winning team!
